BSC - News and Happenings!

Attention all BSC Members:
Your newly elected Inc. Board of Directors hopes to keep you informed throughout the summer and fall by sending a brief summary of our Board meetings via e-mail. Your input is important to us - please feel free to forward your suggestions and/or questions by responding to this email.

Meeting 1: May 20, 2008

LLC presented their projected budget for the 2008/09 season. We are only able to repair or replace certain items on our wish list due to budgetary restraints. The Tamarack chairs will be taken down, stripped and painted. Not all the Tamarack towers can be stripped and painted this year.  The Tamarack bridge will be painted this year. New water lines providing city water will be run to all the lodges.

The LLC budget is based on 460 family memberships.

Fuel costs are rising quickly the proposed budget allows for a 25% increase over last year's actual expenditures. (more than twice the amount budgeted for last season).

Operations forcasts the need to plan for the purchase of a new groomer (or new "used") in the near future. There was some discussion concerning how to raise the funds for this purchase. Raising season passes was discussed as one option. LLC will review and provide season pass prices at our next meeting.

"Adopt a Chair" Summer Project - currently 37 families have adopted chairs - please contact the Mark via email or by phone if you are interested in supporting this project. Chairs are currently scheduled to be ready for painting by members mid September.

Meeting 2: June 2, 2008
  • Mel Dove was elected Inc. Board Vice President and Doug Hayes was elected as Treasurer.
  • Andrew Romanowski and Andrew Dunbar were re-elected as the Inc. Board's representatives on the LLC Board.
  • LLC presented 2008/09 season pass pricing. Following much discussion, the Inc. Board has elected to set an annual "State of the Club" meeting for all membership in mid January to allow membership input and evaluation of the Club's financial status.
  • About one third of the Tamarack chairs have a sponsor.
  • Jay Metzger has obtained additional lockers, and will be installing these at no cost to the ski club. Thank you to Jay for all his work. These Tamarack lockers will be rented on a yearly basis, and will be a source of revenue for the club.
  •  The deck has been removed from the South Lodge and a new one will be installed.
  • Our new generator is working well.
  • Marketing Committee Report: We plan to market our club to prospective new members with discount one day coupons (limit one per person/season). We plan to offer a $5 ticket for President's Day (Heritage Day for the Canadians), which is Monday, February 16. We also plan to offer a one day $10 ticket for Wednesdays and a discounted weekend ticket for families (each individual or family can only use these offers once per season). The weekend family special requires a pre-arranged schedule for their ski day, so we can control numbers on our busy weekends.
  • Membership Drive - we need 600 families skiing at the BSC. Encourage your friends to come and ski at Buffalo's closest ski area. We want them to try skiing at our club this year.
  • The website has the "2008/09 Membership Drive" information available for downloading and printing.
  • Our "Rock on the Hill" summer concert will be Saturday, September 6. If you know of anyone interested in sponsoring this event, please contact Mark Page.
  • A thank you goes out to Willie and Elfie Kamm for donating their winnings from the 50/50 split at last year's German Night to the club.
Respectively Submitted,
Richard Kelly, BSC Inc. Board Director
